Medical Radiation Oncology
Our Goal, Aims, and Core Competencies
Our Goal:
To nurture proficient and compassionate board-certified Radiation Oncologists, equipping them for autonomous practice through immersive exposure to the breadth of the specialty. We emphasize learning evidence-based medicine, compassionate patient care, honing clinical skills, and fostering expertise in the interpretation and conduct of cancer research.
We aim to:
- Train our residents in a wide variety of radiation therapies, including brachytherapy.
- Facilitate preparedness for board examinations and independent practice.
Core Competencies:
Our Radiation Oncology Residency Program is committed to developing well-rounded physicians by emphasizing the ACGME’s six core competencies. Residents are evaluated regularly through direct observation, feedback from faculty and staff, clinical performance metrics, and participation in scholarly and professional activities. Progress is reviewed semiannually to ensure continuous development and readiness for independent practice. The six ACGME competencies include:
- Patient Care
- Medical Knowledge
- Practice-Based Learning and Improvement
- Interpersonal and Communication Skills
- Professionalism
- Systems-Based Practice
Our goal is to support each resident’s growth in these areas through individualized feedback, mentorship, and a learning environment rooted in excellence.
